The Indiana University Newsroom reports on Jacobs School of Music's annual "Ballet at the BCT: The Choreography Project" at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater in downtown Bloomington. The project took place on April 15-16 at 8 p.m., with a matinee performance April 16 at 2 p.m.

Ballet at the BCT is an offering of original works choreographed by the dancers of the IU Ballet Department. An impressive total of 21 choreographers will present an array of diverse new works, each with its own style and theme. Music used for the production is equally varied, at times with a contemporary feel. Several of the ballets will be accompanied by Jacobs student musicians.

Directed by Ballet Department Chair Michael Vernon, the Choreography Project offers viewers the chance to experience quality, contemporary ballet in the intimate setting of the historic Buskirk-Chumley Theater.

"This will be the most creative and interesting of all the Choreographic Projects we have performed since I have been working at IU," said Vernon. "We have 21 ballets of varying lengths, all performed by our talented dancers to assorted music and styles. This is an event that is worthy of a major artistic city such as London or New York -- come and see us dance!"
The IU Ballet Department, within the world-renowned Jacobs School of Music, provides the highest level of professional ballet training in an academic, intellectual and artistic university environment. The department trains dancers to succeed in careers as performers, choreographers and teachers.
