British film talent has come out on top this year with 9 wins at the 2009 Academy Awards®.
According to John Woodward, the UK Film council’s Chief Executive;
"... This level of success proves that British film talent is really at the top of its game in the international film industry.
With our Lottery funding for Man on Wire and The Duchess, and Film4's support for Slumdog Millionaire, last night proved that Government support for film can deliver success on a global scale. The UK Film Council would like to congratulate all the British Oscar® nominees and winners."
Will this massive victory for British film be repeated in the 2010 Academy Awards®? And what effect, if any, will the current economic climate have on the governments support for the industry? Although the future of the country’s economy is uncertain, British films current success makes the industry’s future look bright.
