It's been quite a few years for Reading-based metallers Exit Ten. Not content with quickly becoming one of the UK's top acts, the quintet have done the rounds both independently and in support of the likes of 36 Crazyfists and played Download festival this year. So what with the current well of attention surrounding the band, many are left wondering whether their debut outing 'Remembering The Day' proves as to whether the five-piece are really worth all the attention or whether they're merely another group of doppelgängers keen to defecate further on the good genre that is metal.

The good news is, they are indeed worth the time. Kicking things off with the thrash-tastic allure of 'Technically Alive', a refreshing blend of high-octane riffage and intense drumming that rattles the synapses to their very core, before erupting full-force into the brutal 'Godspeed', a luscious blend of tightly-wound galloping and intense guitar work. While the likes of video track 'Refuse Ignore', a noisier approach to the bands metallic essence is at times a little dry, but is otherwise everything the band were touted to deliver.

One key element that not only entwines the bands vicious assault, but helps make Exit Ten the band they are, is the sheer power of frontman Ryan Redman; who's unmistakable vocals allow tracks such as 'Perish In The Flames' and 'Out Of Sight' wield the kind of epic chorus's that have been lack so much these days.

For that matter, their are seldom moments throughout 'Remembering The Day' that do not echo a genuinely huge feeling. With tracks such as the album's title track and six-plus minute closer 'Something To Say' offering moments of such grandeur and power that one could be mistaken for believing the band have been pushing boundaries and crafting this kind of intensity for many more years than they truly have.

Fact is, 'Remembering The Day' is a stunning masterclass in modern metal, and while it wanes at times; the general feeling is that Exit Ten have proven that not only are they worth the hype, but that in 2008 they will truly dominate and turn the genre firmly on its head.
